How to Install an SSL/TLS Certificate in Web Host Manager (WHM)
How to Guide on Installing an SSL Certificate in Web Host Manager (WHM)
You can only install an SSL Certificate after buying one.
Most web hosting companies today provide SSL certificates as part of their hosting packages. It is important not to assume that any hosting company out there would give this though, so be sure to ask the company.
On the same note, there are also cheap SSL certificate providers that will give you the paid SSL Certificates and some of them do the installation for you. Therefore, if you’re not sure of anything, be sure to check with your web hosting company first.
Here are the steps to install an SSL Certificate in Web Host Manager (WHM).
Installation Requirements
First things first, here are a few things you’ll need to install these security certificates correctly.
#1. Intermediate Files
You’ll need the intermediate certificates to make it easy for any device that connects to your website server to identify the CA that issued the SSL Certificate used on the site. If your certificate was issued in a zipped file folder, you can unzip it and check for these files under ‘Intermediate Certificates’ or ‘CA Bundle.’
#2. Server Certificate
This is the certificate that your CA will issue after you’ve completed the validation process. Check it in your email or downloads or your orders section in your account dashboard.
#3. Private Key
If you generated a CSR using a free generator tool, you should have this key. Otherwise, it’s in your server, and it should be recognized automatically during installation if you enter correct details like the domain names and server certificate details, etc.
Step 1: Type this link https://yoursite.com:2087 in your browser address to access the WHM login page.
Step 2: Enter your login data, then navigate to the WHM home page and click the button labeled SSL/TLS.
Step 3: Click on ‘Install an SSL Certificate on a Domain’ option.
Step 4: Enter your domain name in the corresponding field (Note that this should be the domain name you’re securing).
Step 5: Enter the corresponding certificate files data into each text box correctly.
Step 6: Click ‘Install’ to complete the SSL Certificate Installation process.
And that’s it! You’ve successfully installed an SSL/TLS Certificate on your website. Confirm that the HTTPS/SSL is working correctly by visiting your website from a different browser then check the site/HTTPS information. You can check SSL checker too to get in-depth information of your certificate.
Conclusion
It is important that you correctly install these certificates on WHM to work. There are however cases when the changes may not take effect at once even after proper installation. If you do not see any difference, be sure to restart your server or contact your web host to do it for you.
